In Indonesia you can't stop them. It's culturally acceptable for strangers to pinch cute babies. They give in to their primal urge to pinch litte baby-fat-flesh, and many an ex-patriate baby has cried to mama about it.
The cute little daughter of some American friends of ours had it really bad. Her mom taught her to tell them not to do it.
